Reject the EU’s deportation regime: We Keep Us Safe campaign

The EU’s ongoing negotiations on a new “Deportation Regulation” follows Trump playbook. As terrifying ICE raids have continued across the US, European leaders have critiqued Trump’s actions and immigration policies. Yet, Europe itself is creating its own ICE-style systems: an expansion of its racist, inhumane, carceral migration infrastructure.

The regulation facilitates easier racial profiling of migrants, enables raids on their homes, and deports them to countries they have never been to. This is further enacted through increased digital surveillance and cross-border data sharing. Dutch Member of the European Parliament, Malik Azmani (Renew Europe), is leading the negotiations on the new deportation regulation that will:

  • Expand mass data collection to speed up deportations
  • Normalise predictive algorithms and automated decision-making systems
  • Enable sharing of sensitive personal data with countries outside of the EU

He is pushing for a more aggressive and expedited deportation regime, and for expanded detention, thus normalising the far-right’s racist push to criminalise migration.

More taxpayers’ money will be spent on migration infrastructures, surveillance and control, and militarisation, rather than healthcare, education and public services. These austerity cuts are already deeply affecting the most vulnerable amongst us.

A new social media campaign, We Keep Us Safe (@wekeep_ussafe), is part of a plan to get this law rejected, with the main message: no mass detention, no mass deportations, no Deportation Regulation. The campaign seeks to share information, and to connect with other organisations and people resisting deportations, raids and detentions.

We urge you to collaborate with the campaign! Connect with them, follow the page and share their posts with your communities.
