The call for submissions for this year’s Privacy Camp 2026 (Brussels & online) is open for applications.
This year’s theme, ‘The Origins of Future Technologies: Towards communities of digital self-determination’, asks where technologies come from, who gets to shape them, and what conditions make digital self-determination possible. Who builds and sustains tech? Where does power lie, and what pockets of possibilities are already happening? Tech and the ‘digital’ are built through land, labour, capital, infrastructure, law, public money, political choices and social struggle. These are sites of power and struggle that are being contested and resisted.
Furthermore, as the ‘digital sovereignty’ debate dominates the EU bubble, whose version of ‘sovereignty’ is perpetuated, or ignored? What tensions and antagonisms emerge if the dominant notion of ‘sovereignty’ (as understood in the EU debate) is challenged by looking to ongoing grassroots movements in Europe and the global majority?
Privacy Camp is inviting proposals for sessions that fall within three areas related to the production and use of technologies:
- Understanding the material conditions
- Political visions
- Moving forward through community, grassroots power
